National Apprenticeship Week 2019
This week, we come together with the whole apprenticeship community to celebrate National Apprenticeship Week and recognise the difference that apprenticeships make on individuals, businesses and the economy.
This annual celebration takes place 4 to 8 March 2019 and is organised by the National Apprenticeship Service. National Apprenticeship Week aims to celebrate apprenticeships and its impact on society and our economy.
We support apprenticeships too and recognise the value that it brings to all members. Since October 2018, we have had the pleasure of welcoming Julia Liszkiewicz on board as a Lab Technician Apprentice, assisting in production, analysis and product development of our product material.
Julia’s apprenticeship programme also dedicates a day a week at Kingston College, where she pursues a Laboratory Technician qualification as well as a subsidiary diploma in Applied Science. Her college education ties very well with her work as she puts her new-found knowledge to regular use at work. This active application also reinforces her knowledge and skills, enabling her to do well in school too.

What Julia appreciates most about the programme is that it provides flexibility and variety in learning. She is often encouraged to undertake additional classes of interest to improve her practice science skills and is appreciative of the various opportunities to explore various areas of interest. She’s found that an apprenticeship programme suits people who learn best from experience and is a great way to gain insight into an industry or job.
Julia has been a great team member and contributor to our work here at CustoMem, demonstrating great potential. "It's great to have the fresh perspective and enthusiasm of having an apprentice on the team" said Katharina Reeh, CustoMem’s Industrial Design Chemist and Julia's supervisor. It has been wonderful having Julia on board and we look forward to our journey of growing further together!
